Cosenza Archives Site

ARCHIVIO DI STATO DI COSENZA

If you’re looking for vital records from Cosenza Province in Calabria then make sure you check out the Cosenza Archive site .  The records and image extractions available range from 1800 -1900. They also provide access to actual images of births acts, marriage acts  and WW1 Draft Registration Cards. Not only do you have the option to view many records from the site but you can also save copies to your desktop  (for personal research as they are watermarked) or you can order an actual hard copy of the image from the archive.

I was able to trace 11 generations of my family using the information on the site.  It was very easy to use and offered several search options *but* be careful of transcription errors – there are plenty.  The site is updated frequently with new images and information being added weekly – I always find something new when I log on.  I love the fact that the sources are also listed on each extracted piece which makes sourcing the data in your files that much easier.

If you haven’t registered to use the site, then you should do so now. Activation can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. I was lucky – I was allowed access within 10 minutes of registering and now find myself a regular visitor there.

Let me know what you think….

  • I have tried to register on the Cosenza archives site but I get a message that says “account has not been activated. Check out email for activation.” After several weeks I am still unable to access the site. Please give me some guidance on activating this site. It sounds very helpful to my continuing search for my ancestors. Thank you. Iris.

  • It sounds like the activation link may have gone to your spam/junk mail. Perhaps you should try registering and see if that helps. My account was activated within 48 hours. Let me know how you make out.

    Folks:

The old uncles said we had French blood in us…I read in “Old Calabria” (1915; p.288) by Norman Douglas: “In one single year (1807) a French regiment in Cosenza lost 800 men due to fever…” My great great grandfather Antonio whose son Luigi was born in 1833 (married in 1857 to Antonia Tucci) would have been born around then. I am trying to find documents on the birth of this Antonio.

Names sound familiar….would they be connected to my Taverniti from Stilo?

I have searched the Cosenza archives for a few years now and have been thrilled with the results. Recently, however, I have been unable to access the images. I keep getting a message that there is an error on the page. Is there something I can do to once again view the images?

  • The site images are down – some say due to funding issues so we’ll all just have to wait and hope this is fixed soon!

  • Thank you very much for this useful link to on line records.

  • I have been trying to log in to the Cosenza archives site for several days. It has been a very helpful resource for me in the past. Is there a problem with the link to the site?
